A Conversation With Disco-Nected
I had the pleasure of speaking with Disco-Nected. It was a fantastic conversation, covering everything from their history, to their new record, to their live show.
So to begin, how’s it going?
Very good as always !
Give me a brief history of Disco-Nected, how and why you decided to chase your passion and pursue music.
We’re just three pals and we play very loud heavy stuff since 2015. We used to play together before in high school in an other project but we stopped to create Disco-Nected with Aziz on Vocal guitar, Jonathan on bass and Lucas who’s smashing the drums.
We feel comfortable with just three guys! It’s pretty easy to be organised, it’s simple and we’ve got the same goals.
Our conversation then moved onto the band’s debut EP, Vision Division.
I love your debut EP Vision Division. Can you tell me a little bit about the writing process behind the record?
Thank you. For the music, we mixed ideas, but in general Aziz brought the first riffs then after we built everything together except for the lyrics, Aziz knows where he wants to go but everyone got his words about it.
Before the recording process we wrote about 30 songs and we choose 5, it was hard but we were very proud at the end. We decided to do an album first but we were on a budget and wanted to share something new very quickly.
Can you tell me a little bit about the following songs, what inspired them, the writing process, lyrics, etc.?
- ‘Here To Stay’
Everything is about to keep pushing, to be focus even if something go wrong! This song is a good example to know what we went through during the writing process. Try to believe in ourselves because no one does!
- ‘Waves And Lies’
It’s the most personal song, it’s about domestic violence and separation. Human prefers close the door when he sees someone in the need and this song was inspired by personal events
- ‘ The Wolf Returns’
The Wolf Returns it’s the anthem for us, in the beginning it was just an advice to tell that we were back in town to ate everything and then.. You’ve got those heavy riffs and you go crazy in the studio during the last days ! We’re very proud of the result
Now that you’ve released Vision Division, what’s next for Disco-Nected? Is there a full length album in the works?
For now, be on the road is the biggest part of our lives now, we promote as much as we can this record. We can’t tell more but yeah something is in the making
Our conversation moved onto the Disco-Nected gig front.
Tell me a bit about the Disco-Nected live show, how much does it change in a live environment?
It’s raw and sweaty for sure! The studio is cool but for us the most important is to perform and share this is how it started and we’re very close to the people, so it’s better than a CD because you can see and talk to us.
What are your current touring plans?
We’ve got a bunch of gigs in France and Belgium, then after we’re gonna expand our music in UK and Ireland, sooner is better !
Our conversation finished with that age-old GMM question…
Tell me your thoughts about the current state of the music industry and what advice you would give to young artists looking to break into it.
There’s a lot of choices that it a good thing, you can discover something that you like and don’t be forced to listen to the radio. For the young artists, don’t be afraid to be yourself, it’s the only way to be unique!
Be inspired but don’t need to copy, play as much as you can, at our levels it’s the best thing to get a name
